The Denim Shirt

Who doesn't love a piece of clothing that can be worn in multiple ways? A denim shirt, in this case, can be very versatile.

Going for the dressed-up look, I have paired my denim shirt up with a pair of ripped True Religion jeans, a vintage Moschino blazer (that I’ve “borrowed” from my mom’s closet - sorry mom, I can't give this one back) and Aldo heels. Denim on denim is quite in this season - pairing your denim shirt and jeans with a blazer, with or without heels, will give off an edgy-chic vibe.

Secondly, I've worn my denim shirt with a sequin skirt and heels; as denim and sequin aren't the usual combination seen on the streets, this is an interesting and unpredictable outfit. If you don't have a sequin skirt lying around, work with a colorful skirt that isn't so casual; the denim shirt is causal enough to dress down the outfit.

The combination of these two ensembles create dolled-up looks that I would use for the evening; drinks with friends, a dinner date or a night out with the gals.

On the contrary, aiming for a more casual look, I have tied-up my denim shirt and worn it with high-waisted Mango trousers and a pair of Converse. Pairing up the shirt with blue trousers touches on the ‘matchy-matchy’ trend I have discussed previously. The Converse trainers make this an easy-going outfit that can be worn on a daily basis; a day out shopping or a lunch date would suffice. If royal blue isn’t your color, dare to dare with another striking color such as scarlet red, forest green or fuchsia pink.

Lastly, I wear my denim shirt to create a grungy look. Together with a H&M faux leather skater skirt, a Vero Moda sweater and Isabel Marant wedge sneakers, an outfit with edge is born that can be worn for various casual occasions. Tying your sweater around your waist gives off a laid-back attitude, it is more of an accessory than anything. The plus side is that if it does get chilly, you’re covered. I would wear this look for a day at university, for a coffee with friends, or to the cinema.

Finding that piece of clothing that can be worn to create various looks is simple; explore your closet and make it work with that simple white tee that you've had for ages, or a pair of black jeans that will go with almost everything.
